Description

ABU DUJANNAH was a key person in the Battle of Uhud. He fought along with Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him—PBUH) and the Prophet’s companions such as Abu Bakar Siddiq, Umar bin Khattab, Usman bin Affan, Ali bin Abi Thalib and Hamzah Abdul Muthalib.  Also Abu Thalhah bin Ubaidullah and Zubair ibnu Awwam.

Abu Dujannah was chosen by the Prophet (PBUH) to receive one of the Prophet’s swords to be used in the Battle of Uhud. The Prophet (PBUH) chose

him as he considered Abu Dujannah was the most suitable person although Zubair  ibni Awwam had also requested for it.

Abu Dujannah and the Muslims fought bravely in the battle although the kafir (infidels) Quraish had 3,000 soldiers compared to only 700 Muslim soldiers. The Muslims were on the verge of victory.  But the archers made a fatal mistake when they left their post on the Uhud Hill looking for loots. They disobeyed the Prophet’s instruction not to leave the hill. The counter attack by the Quraish put the Muslim army in a shamble.

Under the tense situation, Abu Dujannah and his friends had to calm down the soldiers and lifted their spirits to fight on, amidst the provocation by the Quraish that the Prophet (PBUH) was dead.  He protected and defended the Prophet (PBUH) although his body was full of wounds. Finally he died ‘shahid’ (martyr) just like Hamzah Abdul Muthalib and Mushab bin Umar.
